I gathered up the Yoto cards my son has been listening to on repeak and put together a list of the best Yoto cards for 5 year olds!

As a long time user of the Yoto Player and Yoto Mini (about 4 years now!), we have accumulated many cards. It’s been fun to watch my kids discover new stories they get wrapped up in and what topics pique their interest. Not super surprisingly, I have found that my son and daughter have pretty different interests in cards. My son is more interested in the long stories and informative cards while my daughter who is 3, loves all things princess.
If you don’t know, the Yoto is a screen free audio player that you insert cards to play whatever is on them. They have cards with stories, songs, meditations, nature sounds, and more. It has a large pixel display which, when turned face down, will become a nightlight; a slot to insert the Yoto cards; two speakers on either side; two knobs that control the volume and tracks, and a headphone jack. There is the Yoto Original and the Yoto Mini.

Favorite Yoto Cards for 5 Year Olds

5-Minute Myths and Legends: These are fun stories to introduce kids to Greek Mythology. There are 5 different short stories about the classic greek characters: Zeus, Medusa, Cerberus (the 3 headed dog), Atlas, and a Minotaur. They’re a little silly and my son loves them.

BrainBots Our Planet (Earthquakes): The BrainBots are such interactive, educational cards that are a hit with my 5 year old. They have a lot of different topics they cover like dinosaurs, the human body, and nature. My son is really interested in natural disasters right now so he’s loving this card about earthquakes.

Charlotte’s Web: This is a beautiful telling of the classic story Charlotte’s Web. I loved this book as a kid and have fond memories of my mom reading it to mean and my siblings. It is a longer chapter book so we did not start with this one for our 5 year old, but he has gotten used and now enjoys to listening to longer stories like this one.

Avenger’s Storybook Collection: While my son hasn’t seen any of the Marvel movies, he has seen pictures and has been read stories about the classic characters. These are fun and exciting stories about the classic Avengers and I like that it’s not too violent.

Magic Treehouse Series: The Magic Treehouse books are always a hit and he loves listening to many of the stories. They are fun for me to hear as well as I read them when I was a kid! He goes through phases of which ones he listens to the most but currently it is Pirates Past Noon, Night of the Ninja, and Dolphins and Daybreak.

LadyBird Audio Amazing Vehicles: The Ladybird Audio Adventures are my son’s favorite collection of Yoto cards and has been since the beginning. There are dozens of options and so many different topics. Amazing Vehicles has been one of his favorites since he was 3 years old and he always comes back to it.

BrainBots: Wildlife Defenders: I love that these BrainBot Yoto cards are educational and fun. This one about wild life is a hit. It’s about these kids on a school trip who learn about endangered wildlife and how to take care of it. There’s also BrainBots Sea Defenders that he loves! Also, Yoto collaborated with the Chessington Wildlife Conservation on these cards, so 20% of all profits will be donated to protecting endangered species.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: We watched this show with our 4 year old and he loved it so much I knew I wanted to get him the audiobook. Roald Dahl is a fantastic author with wacky books. I read a lot of them as kids and it’s fun to listen along with him. You can check out all of his books in this The Swashboggling Collection.

Hot Wheels Ultimate Racers: This is based off of the Hot Wheels TV show and has all the same sound affects, music, and voices. Even if your kid has never seen the show, it’s a very engaging and stimulating card. My son loves to listen to it while he actually plays with his Hot Wheels cars.

Lilo and Stitch 5 Minute Stories: Ever since the live action Lilo and Stitch movie came out, both my kids have loved watching the cartoon movie. These 5 minute stories are fun listens for anyone who loves Stitch and Lilo.

Headphones for Kids to Listen to Yoto Players

These are the kid headphones my 4 year old uses when he listens to his Yoto Player on the airplane or sometimes in the car. We have had them for a couple years now with no issues. I like that the connector piece is metal so it’s less likely to break at that weak point.

Our two year old doesn’t like to keep on traditional over the ear headphones so I decided to give these headband headphones a try and they worked like a charm. She kept them on and actually enjoyed wearing them. They are bluetooth as well as chorded but I have yet had a chance to test out the bluetooth feature. They are adjustable on the back to fit a range of kid head sizes.
