43 Best Gifts for Outdoorsy Kids | Gift Guide 2025

Today I’m sharing the Best Gifts for Outdoorsy Kids that are open-ended, help them get outside, encourage teamwork, and learn useful skills.

Finding gifts for kids that don’t just end up in the garbage or donate pile the following month is really important to me. I also always try and focus on finding things that are not just toys. I look for things that help them use their imagination, want to get outside, encourage teamwork, and as my kids get older, help them learn useful skills.

I’m really excited about this years gifts for outdoorsy kids. I pulled ideas from things I have gotten for my kids in the past and that they love as well as items that have sparked my interest to give them. I love when other moms share gifts that have been loved by their kids for years and get inspiration from them as well. Who better to trust than another mom?

I hope these gifts for outdoorsy kids spark some ideas for what you think your own kids would love. I have catergorized them by price so you know if they are in your budget this holiday season.

Best Gifts for Outdoorsy Kids

Under $15

Bug Bungalow-Insect Catching Kit: 🐞This little bug catching set up has actually been super durable. It’s easy for little hands-I’d say great for ages 3 and up. It comes with a tweezers for snatching bugs, a magnifying glass, and a jar that also has a magnifying lid. No bugs in the neighborhood are safe from getting captured in this thing haha.

Knot Tying Kit: I mentioned in the intro that as my kids get older, I want to gift them things that will help them learn useful life skills. I absolutely think knot tying is one of those and I think my oldest will have a ton of fun with this. I also think this could be a great homeschooling activity!

Waterproof Mini-Latern: There’s just something about a flashlight that my kids absolutely love. This is waterproof and has a caribiner to hang anywhere. I love the small size and I think it will be perfect to clip to my kids backpacks for fanny packs when we go hiking and camping.

MicroBrite Pocket Microscope: When I first saw the microscope out of the box, to be honest I didn’t expect much. But I also got the sample slides and was actually really impressed by how clear and cool the images are. My son loves to collect everyday objects and examine them. You can also buy the phone clip, which uses your phone to magnify the image for even easier viewing which is nice when multiple kids want to see something at the same time. Something fun to bring along on your hikes or nature walks!

Backhoe Lego: What kid doesn’t want a lego set? We love the Technic series because once they’re put together, they don’t come apart easily so your kids can actually play with them after they’re built. I love how affordable this one is.

Spot It! Camping Edition: This is a simple but fun game that even adults enjoy. It says ages 6 and older but my 3 year old even has fun playing it. It comes in a round tin that is super portable and won’t get destroyed when you toss it in your bag. We love the camping version for at home and on the road play!

Pet Shop Puffy Sticker Reusable Set: These reusable sticker books are great to bring along on road trips, to restaurants, church, wherever and my kids love them. You can move them around and recreate the scene. And because they’re puffy, they’re easier to pick up than normal stickers.

Shut The Box- Table Math Game: I love simple games that I enjoy playing with my kids and this one is really fun. You roll dice, add up the numbers (I love the learning aspect) and try and get all of the numbers to “shut the box”.

Animal Sticker Pad: This is another sticker pad that my kids love. The pages are white with black outlined animals and they can use the correlating sticker pages to fill them in to create a colorful scene.

Find and Seek: Scavenger Hunt Card Game: I love switching up our outside time and these find and seek scavenger hunt cards are perfect for that. Just park yourself outside in a comfortable chair, and pull out a card to let your kids run around to try and find it.

Crayola Clicks Retractable Tip Markers: What kid donesn’t get excited over new markers? I love these because we don’t have to worry about losing caps and drying the markers out. Plus they’re just a little more fun than regular markers and more exciting for kids to receive.

Take Along Guide Book: This fits into the theme of teaching my kids useful life skill. I think the illustrations in this book are beautiful and I can’t wait to bring this out in the summer to do some track and scat hunting with the kids.

Kids Cutting Gloves: We have a family friend that have these for their kids when they help prepare dinner. The kids can cut up vegetables, fruit, or whatever they need and wear these without worrying about knicking themselves. They would also be great for when your kid’s start learning to whittle.

Under $25

Kids Full Face Snorkeling Mask: We got this for our 4 year old right before our trip to Costa Rica and it was a hit! Both my kids still wear it (2 years later) in the pool. It is a great design and even if water gets in the snorkel, they don’t breathe it in because they don’t have a tube in their mouth.

Merino Wool Socks: I got these last winter, and they’re perfect for cold-weather hikes. They’re warm but not so thick that my kids’ boots feel tight. Super soft, durable, and great for all-day wear. I love a practical gift.

Wooden Puzzle and Balancing Toys: I love these cute wooden animals and I think there’s a lot of options for play with them. You can use them just as animals or stack them for a fun game and working on hand eye coordination.

Stomp Rockets Jr. Glow Rocket Launcher: This is a favorite of my kids and I love that this gift makes kids move! Fun for all ages, and my kids love jumping on it to launch the rocket, and trying to catch it. It can go decently high, so I would make sure to use it in a space where it won’t land on a roof or get stuck in a tree. When we camp with friends, someone always brings one and the kids get so much entertainment out of this.

Stainless Steel Folding Pocket Knife: I am getting this for my 6 year old for Christmas this year and I’m really excited. It’s a folding pocket knife that has a rounded safety tip. I think it will be a great intro knife for my son and help him learn how to start whittling with sticks we find camping as well as cutting up foods or whatever he’s wanting to. It will be a great learning tool. Pairing it with these kids cutting gloves too!

Essential Outdoor Survival Skills for Kids: This is going to go along great with the pocket knife and knot tying kit I have recommended. I am so excited to look through these skills with my 6 year old, see what sparks his interest, and start working on them together.

Big Potato OK Play: This is a fun little game thats perfect for travel. The goal is to get 5 of your color squares in a row. It’s perfect to clip on to a backpack or purse and you can literally play it anywhere.

Kid Binoculars + Sticker Book: These are such a fun addition to our outdoor adventures. My 3 year old has a little bit of a hard time focusing them himself, he mostly looks through the other end. But for older kids they would be able to see so much. And my toddler loves feeling like a “real adventurer” when he wears these.

Snap Circuits Jr: We got the beginner version of this set for 4.5th birthday and he still plays with it almost 2 years later. This is the explorer version which is great for a little bit older kids! You snap the pieces together to create electricity and make pieces move, light up, make noise, or whatever they’re intended to do. It’s totally safe and a great intro to electrical engineering. He needed a little help figuring it out at first, but now he can do it on his own and creates his own designs.

The Year at Maple Hill Farm: I just think these illustrations are beautiful. And I love that it goes through what the different seasons on a farm look like.

Remote Control Car: Remote control cars are always a hit in our family, but they’re not all made equally. This car is super durable. It can handle crashes, going off rocks, and even being driven through puddles. Perfect to take outside in the neighborhood or on your next camping trip.

Coleman LED Lantern: I think “grown up items” are so fun to gift to kids. They’re usually better quality and kids love feeling grown up. Let them be in charge of the lantern when you go camping. Or they can use it for pretentd camping in their room.

Silk Rainbow Cape: I love the high quality of these silks and a cape is what my kids want 90% of the time when they play dress up so might as well get them a nice, dedicated cape.

Blu Track Classic Starter Set: We’ve had this racetrack for a couple of years now and it gets used so much. My kids stick it to our sliding back door, we use it camping. It seems a bit expensive for a race track, but when it came in the mail, I could feel the quality. It’s larger than I expected and has a great weight to it. It’s also made in the USA. It can be stuck to car windows, walls, whiteboards, doors and I know my son will have a blast racing his cars down it.

Little Kid Swim Fins: I got these fins for my kids to swim with this summer and they are a hit. They’re nice and flexible so they aren’t hard to move in and they aren’t too long. They give my kids an extra boost in the pool for some added fun.

Ninja Tree Climbing Holds: These holds are perfect if you have a tree outside that doesn’t have brances low enough to climb. You can attatch these climbing holds around it and let your kids climb to their hearts content. I think we are going to get a set for my parent’s trees for when the grandkids visit!

Slack Line: If you’ve never tried a slackline, basically it’s a piece of webbing you tie between two trees and tightrope walk across. It’s extremely fun and addictive. My husband and I can be out in the park for hours walking the line! Now that my kids are older, I want to start taking them as well and I think the training line that you can set up above will be perfect to help work on keepting their balance.

National Geographic Glowing Marble Run: My friend Briar got this for him and it might have been my favorite thing he got for his birthday. It is for ages 8+ which totally makes sense because setting up marble runs is not simple. My 4 year old can’t do it on his own, but he loves putting the marbles down it and watching them go down the different routes. I however have immensely enjoyed setting up the runs and making them different every time. It’s not a toy you can just pull out and let your toddler have at, but it’s a great family activity for us.

Bike Lights: These lights were also a gift from friends and they were an immediate hit. My husband put the lights on including this Spoke Light she got us for his wheel. Our son loved them and was so excited to ride his bike in the evening. Not only are they fun and colorful for kids, but they also make them so much more visible to cars or other people around making it much more safe for them to ride bikes at night.

Robot Blocks: Building toys are always a hit and these fun customizable robots would be perfect for so many ages.

Kids Packable Puffy Blanket: My kids almost always get cold on the airplane and they love their little travel blankets. These ones have snaps around the perimeter so you can secure it around them and it won’t slip off. It packs down really small and it’s super lightweight so it’s really easy to just throw inside their backpacks.

Under $100

Noble Knight Foam Sword & Shield Set: I am getting my son this set for Christmas and I just know it’s going to get a ton of use. He can play fight with his sister, or if a friend comes over (and you can just buy one sword and shield if you don’t feel the need for a set). I love all of the imagination at play when kids play dress up and this is going to be right up his alley.

Montessori Large Silk Scarves: Play silks are a great open ended toy. They can use them for endless things like a cape, setting up a scene with the blue silk as water and the green silk as the grass. I started my daughter with a less expensive set of play silks but they got torn up pretty quick from all of the use so I’m excited to upgrade hers to this higher quality set.

Wooden Keepsake Box: I am getting my oldest this for Christmas this year. It just seems like the perfect place for him to keep his most special treasures. I wanted something that was durable and last and for him to have a place that was all his own.

Super Slide Puzzle Game: This is a fun on the go game for your older kids to solve. There are lots of different puzzles for them to do so they won’t get bored quickly.

Wooden Ice Cream Counter: I’ll be honest, I was shocked about how much my kids liked this. They played with it at my sister’s house when we visited and they were constantly asking everyone what their order was. I posted about it on my Instagram and got dozens of messages from parent saying how much their kids have loved it as well.

The Original Bike Bungee Tow Rope: If you have a kid getting into biking more, especially mountain biking, I would definitely look into getting a tow rope for them. This goes on your adult seat and then attatches to their handle bars to help them get up the hill. It’s a great way to bike further with them and let them come on longer rides.

Merino Wool Base Layers

Merino Wool Base Layers: I will rave about merino wool until the end of time. There are so many incredible benefits: it’s temperature regulating meaning even when it’s warm it will help keep you cool, it is odor resistant, it keeps you warm even when it’s wet, and it’s moisture wicking. This is the only material I dress my kids in when we are out on winter hikes.

Winter Snowsuit: I love my kids’ Reima snowsuits. My two favorite are the Gotland and the Stavanger. The Gotland is made for toddlers with shorter legs, a longer torso, and more room for a diaper. the Stavanger has a longer torso and is a little easier to move in with less padding. Both are waterproof and insulated and just so cozy.
