The Best Reima Spring Layers | Rain Gear for Kids

Today I am sharing my favorite rain gear from kids from water proof jackets all the way down to shoes. These are all from my favorite outdoor kids brand Reima.

I have been using layers from Reima for over two years now and I have tested A LOT of their gear. From Reima snowsuits down to Reima socks. I wanted to have a place where I put all of my favorite pieces in one spot so you can come and compare the differences to see what layer will work best for your child.

I did not include anything I haven’t fully tested. My kids have all used these layers so you can trust that you’re getting good information from me! If you’re looking for more tips for hiking in the rain, be sure to check out my post 13 Tips for a Great Rainy Hike.

Reima Base Layers

Merino Wool Base Layer Set – Taitoa These base layers are 48% merino wool, 43% lyocell, 9% polyamide. They are incredibly soft and my kids love the cute patterns. They have lasted us a couple of seasons so far and still look great. I love having non cotton base layers on my kids when we go out in wet conditions so they stay dry. (If cotton gets wet, it stays wet, makes you colder, and can lead to hypothermia).

Moisture-Wicking Thermolite® Thermal Set – Lani When it’s warmer, I love this 2 piece synthetic set. It’s lightweight and breathable and does a great job at wicking away moisture to keep little ones dry and warm. It does run quite big (bigger than their other base layers) so I would size down at least one size.

Coats & Jackets

ReimaTec Waterproof Jacket – Soutu This rain jacket is made with a waterproof material so your little one stays dry, but it’s still comfortable and not stiff. The hood completely covers their head and has an elastic lining so it stays around their face. The cuffs are adjustable so their arms stay dry. The seams are taped so water won’t soak through as well!

ReimaTec Waterproof Jacket – Suojalat This is the perfect spring shell—waterproof, windproof, and breathable. I love that it’s fully seam-sealed and has a soft mesh lining that adds comfort without bulk. It’s lightweight enough for warmer days but still tough enough for muddy hikes and surprise spring showers. Plus, the adjustable cuffs and hem help keep water out, even when kids are splashing in puddles.

Softshell Jacket – Vantti This softshell jacket is a great option if you don’t want a full jumpsuit. It’s a softshell so not completely waterproof, but will keep out a light rain. We brought this jacket on our Europe trip and got rained on a lot but my toddler never got wet. It’s fleece lined so keeps kids cozy in moderate temperatures. This is great to pair with the Oikotie Fleece-Lined Outdoor Pants. It’s almost like a jumpsuit but makes going to the bathroom outside even easier.

Rain sets and pants

Waterproof Rubber Rain Set – Tipotella This rain set is a spring essential if your kids love puddles as much as mine do. It’s an overalls/jacket combo. It’s made from flexible, PVC-free rubber that’s completely waterproof—even in a full downpour. The set includes both the jacket and pants, and I love that the suspenders and foot loops keep everything in place while they play. It’s super easy to wipe clean and layer over warmer clothes on chillier days. If you just want the overalls, you can get those here! Waterproof Rubber Rain Pants – Lammikko

Outdoor Pants

ReimaTec Waterproof Outdoor Pants – Kaura These are my go-to pants for muddy trails and wet spring adventures. They’re waterproof, windproof, and breathable, so my kids stay dry without overheating. I especially love the adjustable waist and reinforced knees—they hold up so well to rough play. They’re easy to layer over base layers or leggings, making them super versatile for all kinds of spring weather.

ReimaTec Waterproof Outdoor Pants – Kuivala These are a bit lighter than the Kaura pants, which makes them great for everyday spring wear. They’re still fully waterproof and breathable, with a soft feel that my kids don’t mind wearing all day. The elastic waistband makes for an easy fit, and the simple style works great for everything from school to hiking. A solid choice when you want weather protection without the bulk.

Waterproof Outdoor Pants – Vaeltaa These pants are perfect for active spring days when the weather can’t make up its mind. They’re waterproof and lightweight, with a soft, flexible fabric that’s great for movement. I like that they’re unlined, so they work well over base layers or just on their own when it’s warmer. The tapered fit and elastic cuffs help keep out water and mud—ideal for hiking or biking.

Shoes

ReimaTec Waterproof Shoes – Hiivin These shoes for older kids are waterproof and lightly insulated. They are rated for temperatures down to 14°F. They have light traction on the bottom so they work for hiking and around town. My almost 5 year old loves these and they look really nice.

ReimaTec Waterproof Sneakers – PassoThese are great toddler spring boots. They are completely waterproof so your little one has dry feet the whole hike. They are easy to get on and off, my two year old could do it herself. My kids wear these on the trail but also around town.

Baby Fleece-Lined Insulated Booties – Antura: I got these booties for my baby a couple years and love them. The fabric is waterproof and insulated keeping their toes nice and warm. The sole is a thicker fabric but not firm so it doesn’t affect her foot development. I pair them with a thick wool sock and her feet stay nice and warm.

Outdoor accessories

Waterproof Shell Rain Mittens – Kura These are a must-have for rainy spring days. They’re totally waterproof and have a soft, flexible feel that makes it easy for little hands to play. I love that they’re unlined so you can layer them over warmer gloves if it’s chilly, or wear them on their own in mild weather. The long cuffs and elastic at the wrists help keep water out, even during full-on puddle splashing.

Rubber Rain Hat – Rainy This hat is the cutest and most practical way to keep little heads dry in the rain. It’s made from soft, waterproof rubber and has a wide brim that shields both the face and neck. I love the chin strap—it keeps the hat in place even on windy days. It’s perfect for pairing with a rain jacket when your kid refuses to wear a hood (been there!).
